Lectures: 1) Importance of communication in health care, communication theory, transaction analysis 2) Factors influencing the course of communication, effective communication, conflict management and negotiation 3) The importance of nonverbal communication 4) Assertiveness, coping with difficult communication situations 5) Supportive collegiate communication and SPIS 6) Specifics of communication with selected groups of patients (children, old people, etc.) 7) Communication with patient in acute psychic shock, communication with survivors 8) Communication with patients with selected mental illness 9) Communication with a suicidal patient Exercises: 1) Model tasks: Communication in health care 2) Model tasks: Use of nonverbal communication 3) Model tasks: Effective communication 4) Model tasks: Assertive interview 5) Model tasks: Conducting communication in difficult communication situations 6) Model tasks: Specifics of communication with selected groups of patients (children, old people, etc.) 7) Model tasks: Communication with patients with mental illness 8) Model tasks: Mastering communication in acute psychic shock 9) Model tasks: Communication with suicide patient

Learning outcomes
|
The course is designed as a theoretical-practical unit. It forms the basis of the nurse's professional knowledge and skills in establishing contact and gaining patient confidence and for further effective and high-quality care of their individual needs. The aim of the course is to provide students with the required content of theoretical knowledge, as well as communication skills, which will enable them to conduct professionally in various situations when providing nursing care to patients and their loved ones, but also to communicate within a multidisciplinary team.
Students obtain knowledge in given course in accordance with requirements and course programme.

Preconditions are frased in the annotation of the course and in the curriculum of the studying programme.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Practical exam
Classified credit: - 80% attendance at exercises, - completion of model tasks in exercises, - mastering the model situation - problematic communication with the patient.
