Lectures: 1) Introduction, ethics and medical ethics 2) Historical roots of medical ethics, current most important sources on which medical ethics is based 3) Relationship between law and medical ethics; Charter of Human Rights, Medical Codes, Ethics Committees, Informed Consent, Patient's Instruction, Patient Rights, Society and Medical Ethics 4) Ethical problems of the beginning of life; end of life ethical problems, definition of death, euthanasia, palliative care; hospice 5) Research ethics; communication with the patient, professional communication, ethical communication in non-medical medical fields, problems of communicating the truth to the patient 6) Ethical problems in individual fields of medicine, discussion of basic ethical problems Exercises: 1) Characteristics of ethics, historical roots of medical ethics 2) Practical application of ethics 3) Ethical issues of beginning and end of life, palliative care and hospice 4) Ethical issues of research 5) Communication in non-medical medical fields 6) Ethical problems in health care, discussion over ethical problems

Learning outcomes
|
Learning outcomes of the course unit The subject acquaints with the value system forming the basis of professional behavior of radiological assistants. Students will acquire knowledge and skills in medical ethics, terminology in a broader context and in relation to historical roots in the adoption of new knowledge in medicine and non-medical health care disciplines. Students will be able to define the importance of compulsory confidentiality and the importance of patient's right to self-determination. Students will learn to explain the basic principles of the code of ethics in nursing and other non-medical health care disciplines and will be able to orientate in trends of ethics development in our country and in the world and they will be able to discuss ethical problems.
Students obtain knowledge in given course in accordance with requirements and course programme.

Combined examination
Credit: - self-study, - student activity in lectures and seminars, - 80% attendance at exercises.
