Course content
|
1. Structure of organic compounds, bonds, resonant structures, conformations, mechanisms of organic reactions. 2. Nomenclature of organic compounds, R / S and E / Z isomers. 3. Radical reactions of alkanes, addition to double bond. 4. Preparation and reactions of alkenes and conjugated dienes. 5. Preparation and reactions of alkynes and halogen derivatives. 6. Electrophilic and nucleophilic substitution, elimination. 7. Reactivity of aromatic compounds, multiple substitution. 8. Preparation and reactions of alcohols, ethers, epoxides and thiols. 9. Preparation and reactions of aldehydes and ketones. 10. Functional derivatives of carboxylic acids. 11. Substitution reactions on alpha carbon of carbonyl compounds. 12. Preparation and reactions of amines. 13. Carbohydrates, amino acids, lipids. 14. Summary - the relationship between the structure and reactivity of organic compounds.

Learning outcomes
|
The course aims to acquaint students with the basics of organic chemistry - especially with the basic nomenclature (including spatial isomerism) and then with the reactivity of individual functional groups. Great emphasis is placed on understanding the basic reaction mechanisms in organic chemistry. Exercises in the form of examples of reaction schemes deepen the knowledge discussed in lectures.
