Course content
Lectures: 1. International trade in the theoretical context a. Macroeconomics of open economy, importance of foreign trade. b. Customs, quotas and other barriers to international trade, the state's trade policy. c. The elimination of barriers to international trade. 2. Exchange rates and the foreign exchange market a. Foreign exchange market and its equilibrium, nominal exchange rate, real exchange rate, effective exchange rate. b. Exchange rates (floating, controlled floating, currency peg, fixed rate and others). c. One price law, purchasing power parity, interest rate parity, international Fisher effect. d. Monetary policy in an open economy 3. External economic transactions from the point of view of the balance of payments. a. Balance of payments structure, balance of payments accounting, foreign debt. b. Balance of payments mechanisms (exchange rate mechanism and price mechanism). 4. Development and present status of international monetary systems a. Gold standard, system of Bretton Woods and current systems, International Monetary Fund. b. European Monetary System and Eurozone 5. Development processes and trends in the world economy. a. Process of globalization, factors, trends, impacts, factors of production factors. b. International integration, causes, types, forms, effects, theory of integration processes. Seminars: 1. Macroeconomics of an open economy. 2. Customs duties and other barriers to international trade. 3. Gravity model of international trade. 4. Nominal exchange rate, real exchange rate, effective exchange rate. 5. Exchange rate regimes. 6. Purchasing power parity. 7. Monetary policy in an open economy. 8. Balance of payments accounting. 9. Balance of payments mechanisms. 10. International monetary systems. 11. International movement of factors of production. 12. Globalization and integration.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to give an overview of the basic definitions, concepts, categories and relations of the national economy with the world economy in a broader context. It enables students to understand the problems of international economic relations of national economies and cultivates students' critical economic thinking. The subject deals with the importance of international trade, barriers to free trade, the movement of factors of production, the role of exchange rates, external economic equilibrium, international monetary systems as well as the impacts of integration and globalization tendencies in international economic environment.
Students obtain knowledge in given course in accordance with requirements and course programme.
Prerequisites
General knowledge in the extent of bachelor degree is assumed. Precondition: students have to pass succesfully courses of Macroeconomics I and/or Microeconomics I.

Assessment methods and criteria
Combined examination, Presentation of group work, Test

Credit: Continuous control of the knowledge of lectured topics throughout the semester, evaluation of the activities during seminars. Exam: One test in the half of the semester, one final test.
