Course content
Lectures (topics): 1. Balance of payments issues. 2. Monetary union. Optimal currency areas and foreign trade. 3. Exchange rate management. 4. Selected aspects of economic policy. 5. Financial system with a focus on securities markets. 6. Stock exchanges, IPOs, stock analysis. 8. Selected financial institutions involved in the financing of corporate exports in the Czech Republic - Czech Export Bank, EGAP. 9. Selected instruments of international trade financing. 10. Financial derivatives and their use in practice. 11. Specifics of financial management of transnational corporations. Seminars: Solving of practical exercises thematically consistent with the lectures. Seminar thesis presentation.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monological explanation (lecture, presentation,briefing), Self-study (text study, reading, problematic tasks, practical tasks, experiments, research, written assignments), Written assignment presentation and defence
  • Presentation preparation (report) - 4 hours per semester
  • Semestral paper - 8 hours per semester
  • Home preparation for classes - 21 hours per semester
  • Preparation for exam - 32 hours per semester
  • Class attendance - 28 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
The aim of the seminars is to acquaint students with financial and capital processes that are connected to international movement of goods as well as services and related accompanying economic phenomena (balance of payment, currency exchange rates, currency areas, etc.). Attention is also paid to the specifics and possibilities of financing in international trade.
Students obtain knowledge in given course in accordance with requirements and course programme. It covers the basic principles of economic policy and exchange rate management, the functioning of the financial system with a focus on international capital markets. The content of the course includes an insight into selected financial instruments used by companies in international trade.

The course requires knowledge of the following subjects: KEK/MI1 KEK/MA1 KPE/NP KEK/ME

Assessment methods and criteria
Written exam

Credit: Active participation in seminars including home preparation to given topics. Processing a semester work on a given topic and its successful defense. Exam: Written test on the theory presented (open and closed questions, example).
