Course content
Lectures (topics): 1. The nature and importance of controlling in business management. History, current trends and the future of controlling. 2. Information support of controlling (reporting as a basic tool). 3. Reporting of internal departments (prerequisites for effective departmental management - organizational and economic structure of the company). 4. Cost controlling as a tool for management of departments (departmental budgets, transfer prices). 5.-7. Cost controlling and performance management (Break-even Point Analysis, Linear Model, Variable Costing, ABC - Activity Based Costing, Target Costing, Life Cycle Costing). 8. The meaning of planning for the business management (classification of plans, requirements to plans, methods of their preparation). 9. Planning process and planning methods. 10.-11. Strategic and long-term financial planning (the production plan, its individual components) and its main outcomes. 12. Short-term financial planning and its main outcomes. 13. Monitoring and evaluation of deviations. 14. Lecture of an expert with practical experience in this matter. Seminars (topics): 1. Break-even-point analysis for heterogeneous production. 2. Activity Based Costing method. 3. Capacity calculations (calculation of production capacity, calculation of the workforce fund and number of employees). 4. Short-term planning (planning of revenues and expenses). 5. Short-term planning (planning of revenues and expenses). 6. Analysis of total and quantitative deviations. 7. Credit exam test.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to present planning and controlling as management subsystems which in mutual interconnection support achieving business goals and long-term prosperity of the company. The course extends students´ theoretical and practical knowledge and explains the principles of planning processes at all hierarchical levels of the business entity, including the adherence to linkages between individual plans. Students are further familiarized with controlling as a comprehensive approach to cost management of the company.
In given course students will obtain knowledge which they will make use during processing of the thesis and in practice.

Credit exam requirements: Full-time study - active participation at seminars during the semester (1 absence allowed). participation in virtual mobility. Attendance at lectures min. 50 %. Exam requirements: Full-time study - written exam.
