Course content
1. Introduction to the general systems theory. Historical aspects. Basic notions and definitions. Classifications and characteristics of systems. 2. Static systems. Description of static systems. Attributes of static systems 3. Dynamic systems. Description of dynamic systems. Attributes of dynamic systems. Common attributes of systems. Attainability, observability, controllability 4. Modeling of systems. Analytic models, experimental models. 5. Optimization of systems Linear programming, dynamic programming, non linear programming 6. Computer simulation of the systems. Simulink system

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monological explanation (lecture, presentation,briefing), Self-study (text study, reading, problematic tasks, practical tasks, experiments, research, written assignments)

Learning outcomes
The aim of the subject is to get Ph.D. students acquainted with the basic pieces of knowledge of analysis and synthesis of systems. There will be mentioned basic characteristics of static and dynamic systems, design of their mathematical models and methods of their optimization. Study of this subject will enable Ph.D. students to make their next theoretical research and it practical application and implementation using IT more efficient
Students obtain knowledge in given course in accordance with requirements and course programme.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam, Essay, Student's performance analysis

Paper (5000 - 7000 words). In the theoretical part the student presents selected aspects of general theory of systems (30%) with application in the field of informatics and outlines selected current results published in professional journals (20%). In the practical part, he / she creates a simulation model of the selected system (20%) and applies his / her knowledge of the field of study (30%), applying selected principles of general theory of systems and demonstrating the isomorphism of science on the example of computing of informatics and other selected disciplines.
