Course content
Lectures 1. Definition of tourism - characteristics of basic concepts, the importance of tourism in the economy 2. Historical development of tourism, conditions for its development 3. Typology of tourism - forms and types 4. Tourism market, supply, demand 5. Specifics of marketing in sub-sectors of tourism with emphasis on the differences of the marketing mix 6. Visitor attractions, importance of natural and cultural heritage, UNESCO monuments 7. Accommodation and catering services - types, influence of various forms of ownership on marketing goals 8. Transport services - types, marketing approaches 9. Travel agencies and travel agencies, their role in the tourism system 10. Other tourism services - guide, passport and visa, insurance, monetary and health services 11. Congress tourism - importance, classification of congress services 12. Spa tourism - the importance of spa, forms, organization of spa stays 13. Specific forms of tourism 14. Tourism and environment Seminars: The seminars follow the lectures and solve case studies on selected topics.

Monological explanation (lecture, presentation,briefing)

  • Home preparation for classes - 15 hours per semester
  • Preparation for exam - 20 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
The course characterizes the role of tourism in the national economy and regional development, the development of tourism and basic conditions for its development. It explains basic and additional services and the particularities of marketing in this industry. It focuses on acquainting students with the basic concepts and contexts that are needed for passing other courses of the given specialization.
Students obtain knowledge in given course in accordance with requirements and course programme.
