Course content
Syllabus: 1. Overview of Strategic Management: The Nature of Strategic Management, Key Terms in Strategic Management, Key Strategic Management Topics, Strategic Management Case Analysis - framework. 2. Strategy Formulation: The Business Vision and Mission - Vision versus Mission, the Process of Developing Vision and Mission Statements; Importance of Vision and Mission Statements. 3. The External Assessment, Key External Forces, Competitive Forces, Competitive Analysis: Porter´s Five Forces Model, EFE Matrix, CP Matrix. 4. The Internal Assessment, Internal Audit, Resource-Based View, Strategy and Culture, IFE Matrix. 5. Long-term business goals, Decomposition of goals. Key Performance Indicators, Cooperative Strategies - Co-Opetition, Clusters, Types of Alliances, Blue Ocean Strategy, Learning organization. 6. Strategies in Action: Types of Strategies, Integration Strategies, Intensive Strategies, Diversification Strategies, Defensive Strategies, Porter´s Five Generic Strategies; Mintzberg´s Deliberate and Emergent Strategy. 7. Strategy Analysis and Choice: The Process of Generating and Selecting Strategies, Strategy Formulation Framework, SPACE Matrix, the Internal-External (IE) Matrix, Grand Strategy Matrix, the Quantitative Strategic Planning (QSP) Matrix. 8. Implementing Strategies: Management and Operations Issues, Matching Structure with Strategy, SBU Structure, Restructuring, Reengineering. 9. Implementing Strategies: Marketing, Finance, Accounting, R&D and MIS Issues. 10. Strategy Review, Evaluation and Control: The Process of Evaluating Strategies, a Strategy Evaluation Framework, the Balanced Scorecard, Effective Evaluation System. 11. Business Ethics, Social Responsibility, Environmental Sustainability. 12. Global Issues, International Companies and Management: Multinational Organizations, Advantages and Disadvantages of International Operations, Globalization. 13. Different strategies of global companies, analysis of visions and missions statements on practical examples. Case studies. 4. Internal and external audit of multinational and local companies. Case studies. 5. SWOT matrix, BCG matrix, Space matrix, QSPM matrix. Case studies. 6. Financial aspects of strategy implementation, budgeting, contingency plan. Case studies. 7. Evaluation of strategy of Technical University in Liberec, presentation of selected case studies.

Learning outcomes
The course is an integrative one, the aim of which to develop skills of identifying, analysing and solving problems of strategy formulation and implementation. A student will be able to determine forward-looking organizational strategy, assess external as well as internal implications of a strategic choice, with subsequent assessment of a chosen strategy through the lens of various strategic concepts and techniques.

Credit: Elaboration and defense of the semestral project, active participation in seminars. Exam: Written exam with closed questions.
