Course content
Lectures (topics): 1. Introduction to descriptive statistics, basic statistical terms and concepts. 2. Elementary methods of data processing. 3. Descriptive measures. 4. Introduction to probability, basic terms. 5. Random event and its probability. 6. Random variable, its typology and characteristics. 7. Discrete random variables - typology. 8. Continuous random variables - typology. 9. Introduction to mathematical statistics, point estimations. 10. Interval estimations. 11. Hypotheses testing, basic terms. 12. Parametric tests. 13. Nonparametric tests. Seminars (topics): 1. Basic work with the program IBM SPSS Statistics Base. 2. Frequency distribution tables, graphical data processing. 3. Calculation and interpretation of statistical characteristics. 4. Application of the rules for calculating probabilities. 5. Distribution of random variables, the calculation of basic characteristics. 6. Distribution of discrete random variables. 7. Distribution of continuous random variables. 8. Processing data from surveys and point estimates. 9. Interval estimation, the minimum sample size. 10. Parametric tests. 11. Nonparametric tests.

Learning outcomes
To acquaint students with the elements of descriptive statistics, probability and mathematical statistics.
Ability to use basic procedures of treating data, theory of probability and basic knowledge of data analysis obtained from statistical surveys.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of Mathematics I, Mathematics II and common computer skills.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written exam

Written credit test, participation in seminars, homeworks or tests during the semester.
