Course content
Lectures: 1. Netiquette, the LIANE network and its specifics. 2. TCP/IP, telnet, FTP. 3. Symmetric and asymmetric cryptography, PGP and S/MIME. 4. WWW and mark-up languages - philosophy and basics. 5. HTML and CSS. 6. Organic reach and SEO. 7. Social networks. Seminars: 1. Netiquette, the LIANE network, password chance, webmail. 2. Telnet and FTP. 3. Electronic conferences - signing in and signing out, conference use. 4. GPG - key generation, key publication and their export, file and clipboard content encryption / decryption. 5. GPG - key import, encryption using webmail. 6. RSS and Skype. 7. Structure of a www page, basic tags, Markup Validation Service. 8. Lists in XHTML. 9. Web graphics, manipulation with photographs, commonly used graphics types. 10. Website structure, advanced page formatting. 11. CSS, basic rules for www page appearance, CSS validation service. 12. Catalogues, search-engines, meta-information. 13. SEO. 14. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram.

Learning outcomes
The topic introduces selected Internet services and their applications. E-mail, Telnet, FTP, PGP, WWW, instant messaging.
Students will acquire the basic concepts of commonly used applications and services used in modern communication, mainly on the Internet. Main goal of the course is push the knowledge of students from simple application usage to advanced level.

Combined examination

Requirements for getting a credit are activity at the practicals /seminars and successful passing the tests. Examination is of the written and oral forms.
