Course content
The course deals with the application of selected nanomaterials and micromaterials in the field of water and air purification, remediation technologies and the use of these materials in ecological production (green technology). Topics deal with the use of nanoparticles, nanofibres and surface treatment of nanomaterials for environmental applications and for applications leading to the reduction of environmental burdens. Topics: - The topic of the use of nanomaterials in biotechnology and water treatment methods includes an introduction to the details of currently used physicochemical methods and especially to the principles of biotechnology for wastewater treatment. - Applications in separation processes - extraction, adsorption, absorption, stripping, desorption include the use of new materials and especially materials prepared by environmentally friendly methods in these processes. - Chemical water treatment processes - mainly oxidation and reduction. The topic deals with the use of new oxidation and reduction agents (e.g. elemental iron nanoparticles, metal oxides) in the treatment of various types of water. - Biological treatment of wastewater, basic principles, growth of microorganisms and substrate removal, principle of biomass formation, activated sludge flakes and biofilm. - Separation and Filtration - the topic focuses on the processes of separation and filtration of particles from dispersed media with emphasis on membrane technologies. - Methods for gas purification - the topic deals with special filters, e.g. sorption filters, biofilters and filters for catalytic-oxidative combustion.
