Course content
|
Lecture topics: 1. Introduction to the theory and history of monument preservation (with a special focus on the Czech lands and Europe) 2.-5. Introduction to the theory and history of monument preservation 6. Studies focused on selected cases of monument preservation in the Czech lands 7. Methods and practices of surveying and archaeological foundations of historic buildings, their registration in the monument register and legal protection in the Czech Republic. Monument reserves, monument zones, and landscape monument zones. 8. Introduction to monument preservation technology (materials, procedures) 9. Protection of cities and new buildings in historic environments (historical development and current situation in Bohemia) 10. Presentation and popularization of monument preservation (Czech castles and village buildings open to the public) 11. International cooperation in the field of monument protection 12. Excursion - monument preservation in practice and new buildings in historical environments (Liberec, Nový Bor) 13. Excursion - Liberec (Dunaj Palace and heritage conservation) 14. Excursion - VPR, VPZ Železný Brod (the Klemencovsko area and heritage conservation)

Learning outcomes
|
The course focuses on introducing the theory and history of heritage conservation. Emphasis is placed on the Czech lands and Europe. Methods, procedures, and practices of heritage conservation are presented. Lectures are combined with visits to specific sites.
1. Critically evaluate the condition of historic sites and their preservation in both historical and contemporary contexts. 2. Independently and as part of a team, address heritage conservation issues and coordinate practical tasks. 3. Is familiar with heritage conservation legislation and standards applicable in the Czech Republic and internationally. 4. Communicate professionally with heritage institutions, experts, and the public. 5. Apply a multidisciplinary approach to heritage conservation and integrate knowledge from practice and theory.
