Course content
Operational safety in chemical laboratory. Dealing with chemicals, their storing and labeling. Caustics, combustible and toxic compounds as a source of hazard. First aid after injury or poisoning. The possibilities of the origin of fire in chemical laboratories and fire precautions. Dangerous chemicals in the environment.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Self-study (text study, reading, problematic tasks, practical tasks, experiments, research, written assignments), Project teaching, Active metods (simulation, situational contingency methods, drama,acting, namagerial acting ), Problematic methods (research and exploration), Seminár, Students' portfolio, Task-based study method
  • Preparation for formative assessments - 30 hours per semester

Learning outcomes
Master: Operational safety in chemical laboratory, estimation of properties from chemicals structure. Dealing with chemicals, their storing and labeling. Caustics, combustible and toxic compounds as a source of hazard. First aid after injury or poisoning. The possibilities of the origin of fire in chemical laboratories and fire precautions. Dangerous chemicals in the environment.
Basic knowledge on field including skills.
Prerequisites
knowledge of high school chemistry

Assessment methods and criteria
Combined examination, Presentation of group work, Oral presentation of self-study, Test

Active participation in lessons (group tests, etc.). Preparation of a seminar paper demonstrating mastery of the PubChem database and a molecular modelling assignment (only for nanomaterials and chemistry majors).
