Course content
|
Lectures (topics): 1. What is management and who is a manager - basics of management thinking and practice, historical development of management. 2. The personality of the manager - competencies for the performance of managerial work, the role of the manager and aspects of managerial work. 3. Communication - aspects of communication, process, communication barriers, communication behaviour, presentation skills. 4. Planning - mission, vision, goals. 5. Decision-making - procedures, methods and tools for creative decision-making. 6. Organizing and trends in organizational structures. 7. Human resource management, motivation and stimulation. 8. Leadership and the basics of teamwork. 9. Control. 10. New trends in the management of organizations. Seminars: Seminars build on lectures and develop them through practice-oriented activities.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to teach students to analyse processes taking place in enterprises in terms of fundamental managerial activities. To make students understand the use of functional, human, financial and material resources in enterprises. To discuss personal attributes which are relevant to the activities of executives in enterprises and teams. To acquaint students with the characteristics of groups which are important for an organisation and the work of a manager. To lay out the basics of organisation theory. To introduce students to the techniques and procedures used by HR managers.
Upon completion of the course, the learner should be able to: - explain the concept of management, - describe the development trends of management, - describe the functions and roles of a manager, - describe the communication process and the barriers to effective communication. - distinguish the basic types of communication behaviour, - explain the nature of planning and controlling, - apply the principles of organising to the design of organisational structures, - explain the decision-making process and its different phases, - use selected tools for creative decision-making, - explain the nature of human resource management in organisations, - describe the principles of selected motivational theories and explain their relationship to motivational tools and the motivational system, - explain the nature of people management, - explain the principles and benefits of teamwork, - discuss new trends in management.

Assessment methods and criteria

Combined examination, Written exam
Credit: Earning the minimum number of points in the exercise. Participation in lectures by experts from practice is compulsory for full-time students, unless otherwise specified. Examination. The overall grade is determined by the sum of the marks obtained in the practical and written examination.
