Course content
Lecture topics: 1. Historical development of typography, basic concepts 2. Typeface and its classification 3. Computer representation of fonts, font selection 4. Aesthetic principles of typesetting 5. Typographic minimum - basic rules of typesetting 6. Document and book structure, publication design 7. Types of publications and their specific requirements 8. Graphics for print 9. Printing technologies and prepress preparation 10. Typographic programs 11. Internal typesetting mechanisms in TeX 12. Font design 13. Discussion of current typographic production 14. Reserve Exercise content: 1. TeX and LaTeX, basic concepts, document skeleton 2. Working with fonts, environments, lists 3. Classes and packages, text breakdown, content 4. Tables 5. Typesetting of mathematical formulas 6. Definition of custom commands and environments 7. Counters, dimensions 8. Graphics 9. Working with color, multi-column typesetting, PDF generation 10. Cross-references, index 11. Advanced font features 12. Selected extension packages, typesetting programs 13. Practical exercises 14.
