Obsah předmětu
Kurz spočívá v hloubkové četbě několika vybraných děl britské a americké beletrie 20./21. století s následnou diskuzí v hodině. Studenti získají vhled do přečtených textů, porozumí jejich literární struktuře a prohloubí si tak své čtenářské dovednosti. Předmětem diskuze budou také kulturní přesahy jednotlivých děl a způsob, jakým se v textech objevují společenská témata. Povinná četba 1. M. Shelley - Frankenstein 2. N. Winterson - Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit Full-time students will have read all the listed works; part-time students will read Mrs Dalloway and The Brave New World. Výstupy z učení
Předmět navazuje na znalosti, které studenti získali během bakalářského studia. Umožní jim se blíže seznámit s významnými a/nebo populárními britskými a americkými autory a s texty, které v průběhu století v angličtině napsali, v široké škále stylů a žánrů. Hlavním cílem předmětu je poskytnout studentům hlubší znalosti o konkrétních autorech a dílech v kulturním kontextu.

Full-time as well as combined study students will do a presentation of a text they will have chosen and read (to be chosen from the reading list of books for the State exam - other than those discussed in the seminars during the semester) - this is not to be a mere recounting of the plot but critical assessment and contextualization based on the methods of work applied throughout the term. Students will register for a date to present on the chosen texts during the exam period on STAG.
