Course content
Full-time programme (the course is not aimed at part-time students) Session 1: Course organisation, guidelines for class observation. Activity/Lesson plan format. OT - The First Steps. Session 2: Teaching performance analysis. OT - Giving instructions. Session 3: Teaching performance analysis. OT - Materials and resources. Session 4: Teaching performance analysis. OT - Teacher Talking Time x Student Talking Time. Session 5: Teaching performance analysis. OT - Asking questions. Session 6: Teaching performance analysis. OT - Work organisation (FT, IW, PW, GW). Session 7: Teaching performance analysis. Self-evaluation.

  • Class attendance - 14 hours per semester
  • Home preparation for classes - 8 hours per semester

Learning outcomes
The goal of the seminar is to provide the students with the opportunity to analyse their/their classmates´ microteaching and teaching performance and to develop their skill of self-assessment. Emphasis is put on creating space for exchanging ideas and discussions about problems that occurred during the teaching practice. Part of the seminar is also analysis of observation tasks (OT) focusing on different aspects of teaching/learning.
The development of skills necessary for a TEFL teacher at lower secondary school and a TEFL secondary school level teacher.
Prerequisites
Students undertake teaching practice placement 1.

Practical demonstration of acquired skills

Full-time programme The course is finished with a credit. To gain a credit students are supposed to - register for the course on Moodle and fulfil all home assignments - actively participate in classes (one absence possible but only when announced in advance and caused by serious problems ) - including microteaching which will be analysed.
