Learning activities and teaching methods
Self-study (text study, reading, problematic tasks, practical tasks, experiments, research, written assignments), Written assignment presentation and defence, Laboratory work
  • Class attendance - 56 hours per semester
  • Home preparation for classes - 18 hours per semester
  • Preparation for credit - 6 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
Master: Operational safety. Frequently required laboratory glassware and instruments. Measurements of mass and volume. Basic separation techniques (filtration, crystallization, distillation, sublimation, extraction). Preparation of solutions. Establishing the basic physical constants (melting point, boiling point, density). The use of tables of chemical and physical properties of compounds.
To explain and deduce basic knowledge on field, including simpler problem solving. To work practically and safely in chemistry lab.
Prerequisites
knowledge of high school chemistry

Assessment methods and criteria
Combined examination

Completion of laboratory tasks, preparation and submission of laboratory reports, final written test and independently prepared final laboratory work including basic laboratory calculations. The student is asked questions during the laboratory exercise. The answers will verify the extent to which the student is familiar with the principle of the laboratory task to be performed on the day of the laboratory exercise. If the student does not demonstrate sufficient knowledge to perform the laboratory exercise, the student may be withdrawn from the laboratory.
