Course content
1. Minorities and modern national state. 2. Basic terms: minority, majority, culture, identity. 3. Basic terms: ethnic, nation, race. 4. Models of interethnic and intercultural common life: social exclusion and inclusion, marginalization. 5. Models of interethnic and intercultural common life: assimilation, segregation, amalgamation. 6. Models of interethnic and intercultural common life: integration, multiculturalism. 7. Jews in Czech rep. ? history. 8. Jews in Czech rep. ? traditions and habits. 9. Romanies in Czech rep. ? history. 10. Romanies in Czech rep. ? traditions and habits. 11. Romanies in Czech rep. ? contemporary problems. 12. Muslims in Czech rep. 13. Vietnamese in Czech rep.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monological explanation (lecture, presentation,briefing), Dialogue metods(conversation,discussion,brainstorming)
  • Class attendance - 28 hours per semester
  • Preparation for credit - 40 hours per semester
  • Home preparation for classes - 30 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
This course will be focused on theoretical delimitation of study of ethnical, cultural and religious minorities (terms: minority, race, culture, nation, identity etc.; concepts: assimilation, amalgamation, multiculturalism etc.) and practical overview of minorities in the Czech Republic (Jews, Romany, Muslims)
The students will acknowledge themselves with the informations acording to the goal and the matter of the course.
Prerequisites
Preconditions are frased in the annotation of the course and in the curriculum of the studying programme.
