Course content
1. Basic principles of education. 2. Literacy. 3. Education and society. 4. Basic aspects of educational system in the Czech rep. 5. Education as tool of power. 6. Family background as base of education. 7. Equality in access to education. 8. Socialization process in school environment. 9. Pedagogue as intermediate of education. 10. Readership as an indicator of education. 11. Basics of sociology of education. 12. Education and employment market. 13. Lifetime education. 14. Work with sociological data in the teaching at basic and high school.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monological explanation (lecture, presentation,briefing), Dialogue metods(conversation,discussion,brainstorming)
  • Class attendance - 28 hours per semester
  • Preparation for credit - 30 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
The course presents deeply the main sociological theories and researches focused on education with specific respect on selected issues such as social stratification, gender differences, functional literacy etc. Students learn the basic idea of sociological perspective in research of education, educational system and its effects on society. They also familiarize with research data from Czech educational context, also in comparison with international data.
The students will acknowledge themselves with the informations acording to the goal and the matter of the course.

Preconditions are frased in the annotation of the course and in the curriculum of the studying programme.
