Learning outcomes
Sociology raises questions such as: What is society? How can we understand it? What is the role of the individual in society? What role do inequalities play in society? The course is focused on an introduction to selected topics of sociology in terms of sociological theory and sociological research. It introduces the classics of sociological thinking (É. Durkheim, K. Marx, M. Weber et al.) and deals with key sociological paradigms. Students will get acquainted with basic concepts and theories in various areas of current sociological research (culture, socio-cultural and socio-economic inequalities, ethnicity, gender, media, etc.). After completing the course, students will be able to use the so-called sociological imagination (C. W. Mills).
