Course content
Definition of web cartography, advantages and disadvantages of electronic maps and atlases. Cartographic expressing means in the creation of electronic thematic maps. Compositional elements of the map - differences in the creation of printed and electronic map or atlas. Atlas creation process in concept of paper and electronic forms. Classification of electronic maps and atlases, dynamic, interactive, static electronic maps. Mashup applications and current trends in the production of maps and atlases. Distributed GIS and its impact on the creation of electronic maps and atlases.

Learning outcomes
The course presents selected issues in the field of web cartography with emphasis on the creation of thematic maps within the GIS programs with the support of other graphic programs and methods of publishing on the Internet. Students will be familiarized with the problems of creating electronic maps and atlases. There will also be discuss aspects of the subject of trends in production and use of electronic maps and their impact on other areas of geography, and other mainly social sciences.

Successful absolving of subjects: Basics of Geoinformatics, Cartography and topography, Geographic information systems

Presentation of student research activity

The development and defense of semestral work within the scope sets of electronic thematic maps on selected topics.
