Course content
Principal topics: 1. Concepts of ecosystems, landscape sphere and landscape ecology 2. Abiotic and biotic factors of ecosystems, biogeochemical cycles 3. Interactions in ecosystems, food chains and biodiversity 4. Landscape development and stability 5. Landscape structure, types and functions 6. Landscape evaluation, protection and planning 7. Current trends of landscape development in Europe and in the world

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monological explanation (lecture, presentation,briefing), Self-study (text study, reading, problematic tasks, practical tasks, experiments, research, written assignments), Written assignment presentation and defence
Learning outcomes
The main objective of the course is to learn and apply the landscape ecology concepts in the geographical context. The specific objectives include: a) to understand the concepts of ecosystems and of landscape as a segment of geographical environment b) to strengthen the synthesis of approaches of physical and human geography in the solution of landscape ecology tasks and in the pedagogical practices c) to get to know the landscape development trends in Europe and in the world
Student will accuire experiences with application of landscape ecological methods, student will be able to assess landscape structure, landscape functions, quality, attributes and aspects of the environment .
Prerequisites
The course builds on the knowledge gained within the subjects FG1-FG 3 and HG1-HG3. The prerequisite for enrolling in the course is the examination of these subjects, as well as the understanding of the natural environment and the cultural content. In addition, the students of Applied Geography are expected to demonstrate the knowledge of the subject Quantitative Methods in Geohraphy.
