Course content
|
Annotation: The subject deals with development of the Czech and Czechoslovakian society in the years 1918 and 1945, both in relation to national changes and international connections. The students will be acquainted with the functioning of the Czechoslovak state, its political system, economic, social and cultural circumstances and its international policy. It will be explained the reasons of its end and the fate of the Czech nation and Czech lands during the WWII. The seminars will be focussed on the main problems of the whole period as it is understood by various historical literature; it also introduce a number of sources of the Czech and foreign production. The emphasis will be on the disputable appreciation of this topic. Themes of lectures: 01) Origin of Czechoslovakia; conception and its realization; state of the national parts in 1918 02) Formation and strengthening of Czechoslovakia in 1918-1920 03) Political system of Czechoslovakia; position and role of the National Assembly; governments, presidents; political administration and local governments; civil society 04) Economic profiles and the development of Czechoslovakia 05) Inner development of Czechoslovakia in the 1920s 06) Czechoslovakia and Europe; international position of Czechoslovakia in the 1920s 07) Economic and social crisis in Czechoslovakia in 1930-1934 and its political and social consequences 08) Threatened democracy; Czechoslovakia in the hlaf of the 1930s; cultural and spiritual life in Czechoslovakia 09) Munich fall of Czechoslovakia and Europe in 1938 10) The second Czechoslovak state 1938-1939 11) The Nazi protectorate over the Czech lands 1939-1945; Slovak Republic, inner and international position 12) Czech and Slovak resistance during the WWII 13) International effort for restoration of Czechoslovakia in 1939-1945 14) Climax of the Czech and Slovak resistance in 1944-1945; liberation of Czechoslovakia; formation of the new Czechoslovak state , its profile and international position
