Course content
Annotation: The subject presents the basic outline of science and technological development from the ancient history until now. The main attention is given to the events that fundamentally contributed to the development of human civilization. It assesses how new inventions and technologies, and especially their implementation in practice, influenced social changes. Lectures of the course are divided according to sectors? For example, natural sciences (mathematics, physics, chemistry, medicine, etc..), social sciences, history of agriculture, construction, communications, transportation, military science and technology, etc. - and represent the most significant discoveries and inventions which humanity reached. All lectures are introduction to a deeper analysis of individual sectors and focus mainly on European developments from the Middle Ages to the present. Thematic definition: 01) Introduction to the study of history of science and technology; periodization: from prehistory until present times; contributiono of particular regions of the world for science and technology 02) Consequences of the secientific and technological knowledge for society and historical development in different time periods and particular regions; Czech lands 03) Development of natural sciences I - physics, mathematics and astronomy 04) Development of natural sciences II - chemistry, geology, biology, medicine, genetics and ecology 05) Development of social sciences I - politics, economy and linguistic 06) Developmnet of social sciences II - psychology, sociology and antropology 07) History of agriculture, production of foods, biotechnology and gardening 08) History of building industries and architecture 09) History of data communication facility and computers - broadcasting, television, cinema, internet, telephone and telecommunications etc. 10) History of consumer technologies - textile and garment industry, ¨lighting, materials, stocking-looms, photographs, industrial production, manufactures, factorie etc. 11) History of energetic technologies and electric engineering - attempts to construcr perpetum mobile, mining, steam engine, alcoholic fuel and nuclear energy, materials and processes of their production (for example metalurgy) 12) History of military techniques 13) History of transport - development of engines and locos, rocket technologie and transport of information 14) Nobel prize winners for contribution to the science and technology
