Course content
In 2020/21, the proseminar will focus on the topic of the study of contemporary history. The aim of the proseminar is to acquaint students with the issue of the study of contemporary history, which in the Czechoslovak context we usually understand the period from 1945 to the present. Students will acquire (mostly on the basis of fulfilling assigned tasks) knowledge of important scientific institutions in the Czech Republic and abroad engaged in the study of contemporary history, the most important journals, lexical literature and editorial series, get acquainted with the possibility of using research results administrative development in post-war Czechoslovakia, whose knowledge is the key to relevant source research. The second part of the course is devoted to the analysis of individual types of sources, including those that are a specific issue of modern history (oral history, sound, photographic and film documents). Thematic definition: Basic introduction to the issue, definition of the term "contemporary history". Institutional grounding of research of contemporary history in the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic, important scientific institutions abroad. Use of results of related social sciences (sociology, ethnology, demography, historical geography). Bibliography of contemporary history, lexical literature and basic periodicals. Basics of administrative development in Czechoslovakia (including the apparatus of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia and the National Front). The issue of preserving the sources of contemporary history, their storage and accessibility. Historical sources - printed (normative sources, statistics, periodicals, etc.). Historical sources - written sources (with a focus on documents created by the Communist Party bodies, documents of state origin outside the state security materials and on sources of a personal nature). Historical sources - sources of state security provenance. Historical sources - diaries and memoir literature. Historical sources - oral history. Historical sources - audio, photographic and film documents, radio and television. Historical sources - feature film and its interpretation. Interpretation of the Prague Spring 1968/69 as an example of historical discussion.

Learning outcomes
The basis of the proseminar is the practical application of students' skills in specialized work with information sources in the field of history, with archival and printed sources and professional literature. The student will develop the acquired knowledge of the procedures of the historian's work in heuristics and criticism of sources and literature and the creation of seminar work in various areas of history.
It corresponds to the definition of the subject and to the demands given in syllabus.

Assessment methods and criteria
Essay

Fulfillment of assigned tasks, elaboration of a paper, elaboration of a pro-seminar work (submission by 11. 8. 2024).
