Course content
01) Inheritance of the "old regime" and Estate society 02) Medieval society and its changes in the times before March 03) Western society and its changes in the first half of the 19th century 04) Revolutionary years 1848-1849: first steps towards the creation of the civic society 05) The main ideological streams and civic society in the second half of the 19th century 06) Conservatism, liberalism, nationalism, socialism - basic characteristics, differences in Great Britain, France, Germany and Austria (Austria-Hungary) 07) The changes of the European policy in times of the origin and in first phase of the civic society 08) Modern national state and civic society 09) Industrialization and civic society 10) Colonialism and its impact on civic society 11) Civic society in Europe at the turn of the 19th and 20th century 12) Science and culture of the civic society in the 19th and at the beginning of the 20th century 13) WWI and its consequences for the European civic society 14) Summary

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monological explanation (lecture, presentation,briefing)

Learning outcomes
The aim of the lecture is the analysis of the origins and development of the states in Central and Western Europe and in the world in the 19th century, i. e. in the years 1776-1914/1918, teach them to embrace the historical process in context and interdisciplinary relations with other scientific disciplines. Emphasis will be placed on the confrontation of different ideological currents and historical schools, students are encouraged to monitor the latest scientific and popular science journals and literature studies, they will provide sufficient space to present their findings to, learn to think scientifically and to formulate their own opinion.
Students will learn the basic problems common in 19th-century.
Prerequisites
Fulfilment of previous study obligations, general knowledge of history.
