Learning outcomes
The course is devoted to a selected topic from older history. As an example, we present the Book as a Historical Source. Its aim is to acquaint students with the development of book culture in the Czech lands and Central Europe from the second half of the 15th to the beginning of the 20th century. The lecture will mainly explain the beginnings and development of Czech book production in this period. It will focus on book printing and bookbinding terminology as a specificity of craft and field. Examples of selected printers from Prague and other localities from the Czech lands will explain topics such as print financing, technical elaboration of the book, social impact of increased reproduction of information (censorship, press bans, prosecution of authors and book publishers). At the same time, students will gain an insight into the basic literature literature and the usability of old prints as a versatile source of historian research.
It corresponds to the definition of the subject and to the demands given in syllabus.
