Course content
|
Lectures ( topics): 1. Introduction to study: Information society and information. 2. The impact of the ICT development on an enterprise and society, age information attributes, Kondratiev waves, changes in the business environment. 3. Information technology and human beings, mobile technologies and advanced services, information barriers, cognitive aspects of information, information overload. 4. Defining information for various disciplines, Wiener and Shannon's definition of information, entropy. 5. Semiotic model of information levels, signals-modulation, processing, transmission channel, signs, data levels. 6. Codes and coding, numerical system and codes, numerical systems, redundancies, compression. 7. Semantic and pragmatic rules of information processing, knowledge, competence, information value, decision - making. Information technology and human beings, mobile technologies and advance services, information barriers, cognitive aspects of information, information overload. Seminars (topics): 1. OS Windows, LIANE, network, Internet, email 2. Text processors, Microsoft, basic text functions. 3. MS Word - correspondence, formatting tables. 4. MS Word - import, application of fields, editing, a database module. 6. MS Word - macros, advanced functions, working with quotations. 7. MS Word test. 8. Internet and World Wide Web. 9. Spread sheets, introduction to MS-Excel. 10. MS Excel - documents, formatting, editing, importing objects. 11. MS Excel - linking pages and sheets, data application 12. MS Excel - contingency table, tools 13. MS Excel - advanced applications, saving and protecting files and their parts.

Learning outcomes
|
This module acquaints students with the basics of application of informatics in practice. It deals with possibilities of application of computers and ICT in offices and management of organizations. Special stress is given to understanding of merits of information and influences of ICT to dynamic changes of society as well as business environment. In tutorials students learn wider opportunities of use of personal computers, especially the use of their operating system, office suite SW, and information communications.
Students obtain knowledge in given course in accordance with requirements and course programme, possibility to continue in Informatics 2.
