Course content
1. Basic notion determination - science, research, basic research, application research, development, R&D support, purpose support, institutional support. 2. Research and development institutions in the Czech Republic (R&D Council, Czech Science Foundation, The Grant Agency of the Academy of Sciences of the CR, etc.), R&D information system (Central register of R&D projects, Central register of research intentions, Information Register of R&D results), methodology of R&D evaluation. 3. Scientific work methodics, methodology and practice. Scientific investigation methods - empirical and logic methods. Normative and descriptive approach. Scientific work ethics. 4. Goals definition and research thesis formulation. Methods and techniques of data gathering. Quantitative and qualitative research. 5. Publication and presentation of research outcomes, professional text structure, entry in a journal, typography basics. 6. Policy and guides for processing dissertation work, dissertation work structuring, rules for quotations and literature links. Work with databases (Web of Science, SCOPUS, etc.)

Self-study (text study, reading, problematic tasks, practical tasks, experiments, research, written assignments)
  • Class attendance - 140 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
The aim of this subject is to familiarize the graduants with the basic methods and approaches used in the academic work, with the publication policy and finally with the academic work ethics. Next goal is to teach the students how to work with the extent information sources for research and development.
Students obtain knowledge about functioning of research and developmwent systems in the Czech Republic and abroad. They learn how to structure and write scientific articles. They also get competences for project and grant activities.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of writing of scientific text from the master level.

Assessment methods and criteria
Essay

Elaboration of literature retrieval in the field of dissertation theme, its acceptation by the supervisor, active attendance at seminars.
