Course content
Lectures: 1. The subject of didactics of mathematics in relation to teaching at elementary school. 2. History of school mathematics at elementary school. 3. Didactic principles in teaching mathematics at elementary school. Student's learning process. 4. Textbooks and tutorials - Use in teaching mathematics, teacher activity and pupil activity. Preparation for lesson - Practical processing of topics - propositional logic, development of logical thinking. 5. Organizing the teaching of mathematics at elementary school. 6. Communication in mathematics. 7. Mother tongue in teaching mathematics at elementary school. Exercises: 1. Work with a textbook, exercise book and other printed resources. 2. Preparing for a class - practical processing of discussed topics. 3. Didactic game, mathematical exercises as activating activities in mathematics lessons. 4. Building the lessons taught at the low-class classroom. Work in departments, changing forms of work. 5. Table as tool for solving tasks. 6. New Approaches to Teaching Mathematics - Teaching by Hejny´method. 7. Environment in Sheep (Hejny) Mathematics.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monological explanation (lecture, presentation,briefing), Dialogue metods(conversation,discussion,brainstorming), Written assignment presentation and defence

  • Home preparation for classes - 18 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
The goal is to equip students with knowledge, habits and skills to teach all components of arithmetics at elementary school - numerical fields, expressions, work with word problems, methodical procedures in the interpretation of the curriculum, work with teaching aids, literature, opinion, use of arithmetic. Commenting on mathematical concepts, preparing math games, competitions, exercises. At the lectures the students are acquainted with theoretical questions of didactics of mathematics.
Knowledge of essential concepts of arithmetics, intuitive set theory and propositional caculus. Acquiring basic skills for teaching mathematics at level 1.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of secondary school mathematics. Knowledge of Elementary Arithmetic Course 1

Assessment methods and criteria
Combined examination, Student's performance analysis, Presentation of acquired knowledge via paper

Participation in seminars, presentations, seminar work. Written and oral exam.
