Course content
1. Heuristic strategies. Using heuristic strategies (the Working backwards, Guess - check - revise, the Systematic experimentation, the Introduction of the auxiliary element) to solve the problems at the primary school level (solving of arithmetic, verbal and geometric problems). 2. Mathematics in historical contexts. Historical tasks and their solutions. 3. Algebrograms, Napier bone, Diofantic equations. 4. Geogebra, a program for dynamic mathematics. Using geogebra to develop spatial imagination. 5. Using Excel to process statistical data with respect to student diploma thesis topics. 6. Use of Origami to develop mathematical literacy in mathematics lessons (platonic bodies, solving geometric problems, spatial imaging, use of manipulative activities). 7. Evidence in mathematics at primary school. The subject will focus on the practical use of knowledge from selected parts of mathematics with regard to the future profession of listeners. Attention will be focused mainly on topics that are not the content of other mathematical subjects, but whose mastery is advantageous for future teachers of elementary school. Semester work will be given during the semester. The results of these papers will be presented by the students. Their successful mastery will be a necessary condition for obtaining the credit.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Working activities (workshops), Problematic methods (research and exploration), Group consultation, Individual consultation, Students' portfolio, Task-based study method
  • Class attendance - 28 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
The seminar is devoted to selected parts of mathematics: Heuristic strategies for solving problems, mathematics in historical contexts, using Geogebra and Origami to solve geometrical problems. Topics are selected to develop a spatial imagination, ability to solve mathematical problems, and use of software to solve problems. In addition, listeners can use these themes to develop mathematical literacy in teaching mathematics at primary school.
A good orientation in secondary school mathematics from the point of view of the future teacher in elementary school.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of secondary school mathematics.

Assessment methods and criteria
Combined examination

Active participations on seminars, presentation, seminar work. Mathematics of primary school, elementary knowledge of secondary school mathematics (by curriculum of gymnasium, humanities).
