Learning outcomes
Studies of German-speaking Countries is the first of a series of intercultural study disciplines. The aim of the course is to interpret the cultural particularities of German-speaking countries and to extend students' topic-oriented language knowledge. Students will thus gain an insight into the subject, as well as language skills to provide information on selected topics about German-speaking countries. The seminar focuses on two complex thematic units. The first one aims at giving students a basic insight into the historical panorama of German-speaking countries and pointing out its intercultural context. The seminar will also touch on the historical development of Austria and Switzerland. The second thematic unit deals with current issues of contemporary German society. Selected issues will be presented antithetically to encourage students to reflect and at the same time unravel the most diverse picture of contemporary Germany. Both thematic parts will be discussed in the context of Czech reality and embedded in the European historical and cultural framework.
