Course content
Lectures: 1) Criminal law: purpose, function, basic principles, sources. Criminal liability: criminal offense, circumstances excluding illegality, developmental stages, extinction of criminal liability. 2) Penalties: purpose, systematics, types, imposition, extinction of sentence, obliteration of convictions. Protective measures: purpose, systematics, types, deposition. 3) Criminal proceedings: purpose, sources, basic principles. Subjects of criminal proceedings: jurisdiction and jurisdiction of the courts, prosecutor, police authority, perpetrator - rights of defense, defense counsel - defense necessary, victim - compensation for injury, victim of crime, person involved, probation officer - mediation and probation, job description. 4) Procedural acts - logging, filing, delivery, inspection of files. Detention of persons and things important for criminal proceedings. Evidence. Stages of criminal proceedings: pre-trial - forms, course, main trial, redress, enforcement proceedings. 5) Decisions and remedies - form and requisites, legal force and enforceability, conditions for filing remedies, authorized persons. Costs of criminal proceedings. 6) Juvenile justice - basic principles, conditions of criminal liability, sanctions and their imposition, proceedings in juvenile criminal cases. 7) Judicial and police cooperation in the EU - sources, mutual recognition of decisions, mutual assistance, exchange of information from the criminal record, European arrest warrant, Europol, Eurojust. Seminars: 1) Analysis of basic principles of criminal law, analysis of the scope of criminal laws, analysis of facts, analysis of circumstances excluding illegality. 2) Analysis of conditions of imposition and execution of alternative sanctions, analysis of protective measures. 3) Analysis of some facts - eg bodily harm, restriction of personal freedom, custody of a child, violation of home freedom, sexual abuse, production and other handling of child pornography, malpractice, maltreatment of a person, Alcohol abuse to the child, theft, fraud, usury, drug abuse, drug offenses, violence against an official, abuse of authority, bribery, obstruction of enforcement and expulsion, unauthorized employment of foreigners, false notice and false expert opinion assessment, falsification and alteration of the authentic instrument, dangerous persecution, failure to obstruct the crime, failure to notify the crime. 4) Analysis of the basic principles of criminal proceedings, analysis of the rights of the victim and victim of crime, analysis of the work of probation officer. 5) Analysis of detention of persons and things important for criminal proceedings, analysis of evidence. 6) Analysis of the enforcement of penalties and protective measures. Analysis of remedies. 7) Analysis of basic principles of justice in youth matters, analysis of juvenile criminal proceedings.

Learning outcomes
Students will be introduced to the main concepts of criminal law, will be explained the basics of criminal proceedings, crimes, punishments, etc. They will be introduced to the functioning of the above-mentioned legal sector in the Czech legal system together in the context of social work and social policy. practice cases in seminars.
Students obtain knowledge in given course in accordance with requirements and course programme. Students will gain competence to apply knowledge from this course in practice.

Students don't need special knowledge or visit other courses.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written exam, Oral presentation of self-study

Participation in seminars, active elaboration of all assigned tasks. Verification of acquired knowledge and skills by examination.
