Course content
1. Jan Amos Comenius - not only Informatorium of the mother school, but education as a remedy for society. 2. Education in the age of enlightenment in England (John Locke) and France (Jean Jacques Rousseau), the principle of authority and freedom in education. The image of childhood education in school age in enlightenment concepts. German pedagogy of the 18th century, philanthropism and pre-school education. 3. Preschool education in German concepts of the 19th century - F. Fröbel. 4. Jan Vlastimír Svoboda and the beginnings of Czech pre-school education in the middle of the 19th century. 5. Reform pedagogy of the early 20th century and its importance for pre-school education. 6. Development of pre-school education in the Czech Republic after the mid 19th century until World War II. 7. Development of pre-school education in the Czech Republic after World War II until 1989.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monological explanation (lecture, presentation,briefing), Dialogue metods(conversation,discussion,brainstorming), Self-study (text study, reading, problematic tasks, practical tasks, experiments, research, written assignments)
  • Class attendance - 28 hours per semester
  • Home preparation for classes - 14 hours per semester
  • Preparation for credit - 12 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
The course deals with history of pre-school education.
After completion of the course student will be able: 1. to understand the content of prescribed curriculum of History of pre-school education 2. to reflect the topic critically 3. to demonstrate specific intellectual skills gained in a course in writing of a semestral paper 4. to apply gained knowledge in educational process
Prerequisites
Student has basic knowledge of pedagogy.

Assessment methods and criteria
Presentation of group work, Oral presentation of self-study, Test

Written test, active task completion and individual work, group work at seminars.
