Course content
1. Principles of scientific work, meaning of research in education sciences. Working with scholar literature. Principles of creating a scholar text (search, compilation, quotes, ethics). 2. Basic, applied and action research. Information databases and resources in education sciences (thematic field specificity). Teacher and pedagogical research. 3. Possibilities and risks of quantitative research (selection of research files, tool design, field entry, data collection and statistical processing, interpretation of results). Examples of quantitative research, findings. 4. Possibilities and risks of qualitative research (typological selection, collection, processing and interpretation of data). Examples of research qualitative findings. 5. Mixed research design, its demands and possibilities. Examples of research findings in mixed research. 6. Basic research methods and tools (questioning, observation, case report, content analysis), specificity of the research field. Problems of interpretations of acquired data. 7. International pedagogical research (PISA, TIMSS, PIAC, TALIS). Teacher and pedagogical research.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monological explanation (lecture, presentation,briefing), Dialogue metods(conversation,discussion,brainstorming), Self-study (text study, reading, problematic tasks, practical tasks, experiments, research, written assignments)

Learning outcomes
The course acquaints students with the basic principles of scientific work and with the procedures and rules of creating their own scholar text, diploma thesis. The main topic of the course is pedagogical research (the specificity of research in educational sciences, possibilities, risks, research approaches, data interpretation, ethical level of research).
After completion of the course student will be able: 1. to understand the content of prescribed curriculum of Methodology of pedagogical research 2. to reflect the topic critically 3. to design and to perform the research project 4. to apply gained knowledge in educational process
Prerequisites
Student has knowledge of primary education, didactics and psychology.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written assignment

Seminar / semester task (analysis of published research report, thematic research, project of small research form).
