Course content
1. Basic methodological basis of scientific knowledge in pedagogy. Subject of scientific research in pedagogy, specifics of pedagogical research field. 2. Basic research, applied research, action research: their meaning, consequences, work with data, outputs. 3. Different paradigms of quantitative and qualitative research approaches in education sciences. 4. Selected research methods and techniques focusing on the quantitative concept of research (observation, questionnaire, interview; research tool design). 5. Problems of mixed research - possibilities, advantages of use, problems, risks. 6. Research project in the diploma thesis (research objectives, research problem, research file, collection, interpretation and presentation of data, scientific text). 7. Possibilities of research data acquisition, research findings, international surveys, journal sources, yearbooks, databases. 8. Ethics in educational research and its specifics.

Learning outcomes
The course introduces students to the basic topics of educational research with emphasis on the research specifics of the content field of education sciences in the context of research-oriented diploma theses.
After completion of the course student will be able: 1. to understand the content of prescribed curriculum of Research methods in pedagogy and psychology 2. to reflect the topic critically 3. to design and to perform the research project in educational context 4. to apply gained knowledge in educational process 5. to be motivated for continuous learning in the field
Prerequisites
Student has basic knowledge of psychology and pedagogy.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student's performance analysis

Active participation in the lectures, fulfillment of tasks, written test. Elaboration of semestral paper(analysis of published research report; thematic research).
