Course content
Phylogenetic and ontogenetic speech development - theory of language acquisition, psycholinguistic theory, stage of speech development, language level in speech development, pitfalls of speech development from birth to younger school age. Social, cultural and biological determinants of speech development - congenital disposition, maturation, learning in speech development, influence of the environment, family, pre-school education on the development of the child's speech. Articulation system, speech physiology. Introduction to anatomy and physiology of the orofacial area, respiration, voice formation, etc. Fundamentals of phonetics and phonology - introduction to phonology of Czech for speech therapists, system of Czech voice, physiology of vocabulary (consonants, vocals). Construction of children's linguistic and communicative competences - Framework education program for pre-school education, educational area Language and speech. Diagnosis of pre-school and early school-age children by a teacher with an emphasis on communication skills, used diagnostic methods at pre-school age. Support of speech development in children - role of kindergarten, role of parent, role of speech therapist, role of special pedagogue. Impaired communication ability in children - delayed speech development, faulty pronunciation, stuttering, elective mutism. Specific issues of speech education in kindergarten - bilingualism and foreign language teaching in children, children with special educational needs, support measures in kindergarten.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monological explanation (lecture, presentation,briefing), Dialogue metods(conversation,discussion,brainstorming), Self-study (text study, reading, problematic tasks, practical tasks, experiments, research, written assignments), Written assignment presentation and defence, Demonstration of student skills, Students' self-study
  • Class attendance - 14 hours per semester

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to introduce students to basic theoretical concepts that are employed at children's speech training in pre-school education, and enable them to practically try different forms and methods of work suitable for speech training in pre-school education.
After completion of the course student will be able: to understand the content of prescribed curriculum of the course to reflect the topics of the course critically to demonstrate specific intellectual skills gained in the course in writing of a semestral theses to use the acquired knowledge and skills in the educational process, to develop the language and communication competencies of pre-school children
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of pedagogy, psychology, pedagogical-psychological diagnostics and didactics.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student's performance analysis, Oral presentation of self-study

Active participation on the lecture. Participants will perform all given tasks. Reading of relevant academic texts.
