Course content
1. Biological and psychological parenthood. 2. The basic mental needs of children, taking into account the individual stages of development. Developmental stages of human life (by E. H. Erikson). 3. Family systems, family development, father's influence, mother's influence. Siblings and a wider family. 4. Role, places and powers in family systems. 5. Adolescence, separation process, uncompleted separation and its influence on the child. 6. Pathological phenomena in the family, dysfunctional and functional family, illness as a reflection of a broken family. 7. The work of a teacher with a child from a dysfunctional family.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monological explanation (lecture, presentation,briefing), Dialogue metods(conversation,discussion,brainstorming), Self-study (text study, reading, problematic tasks, practical tasks, experiments, research, written assignments)
  • Class attendance - 14 hours per semester

Learning outcomes
The course follows the development of the child in the family from birth to adolescence when leaving the family taking into account the specifics of the individual stages of development and their reflection in the family system. The aim is to acquaint the students with the origin and function of family and family systems, with the family concept, the roles of the individual members and with the influence of the family on the experience of children and prepare them for the various forms of family they may encounter in kindergarten children, intervention. Attention is paid to pathological phenomena in the family. Part of the course is the work with selected casuistics that document the link between the poor satisfaction of the child's needs in the dysfunctional family and the pathological behavior of the child.
After completion of the course student will be able: 1. to understand the content of prescribed curriculum of Psychological issues of family 2. to reflect the topic critically 3. to demonstrate specific intellectual skills gained in a course in writing of a semestral paper 4. to apply gained knowledge in educational process
Prerequisites
Student has basic knowledge of general, developmental and social psychology.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral presentation of self-study, Written assignment

Preparation and presentation of a case report of a child with dysfunctional family environment. Studying texts and developing a critical analysis of academic literature.
