Course content
1. Pre-school pedagogy in the system of pedagogical sciences. Basic concepts - socialization, education, teaching. 2. The function of preschool education, the position of pre-school education in the system of education, the importance of the institution of kindergarten for the life of the child and the contemporary family. 3. Education of preschool children in the Czech Republic - the current status of pre-school education institutions, law and pre-school education. 4. Selected approaches to preschool education - sociocentric, pedocentric and personality concepts. 5. Present trends in pre-school education. Joint education, education of two-year-olds. 6. Curriculum - socio-historical context, curriculum changes, curricular reform. 7. Framework education program for pre-school education - educational areas, expected outputs, key competencies. 8. Change of objectives and content of pre-school education. Didactic transformation of educational content. 9. The social dimension of childhood and education. Relationship of maturation, learning, socialization and education in the development of a child. 10. Play as a mean of universal development of the child, its division, meaning for socialization and education. 11. Family education - family transformation at the turn of the millennium, family function, educational styles, types of family education, dysfunctional and functional family. 12. Family and kindergarten relations - entry of a child in kindergarten, building a parent-teacher relationship, communication between the family and the kindergarten. 13. Kindergarten teacher - teacher profession, teacher competencies, society expectations. Specifics of teacher work in nursery school. 14. Methodological issues of research in pedagogy - ethics of research.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monological explanation (lecture, presentation,briefing), Dialogue metods(conversation,discussion,brainstorming), Self-study (text study, reading, problematic tasks, practical tasks, experiments, research, written assignments)
  • Class attendance - 28 hours per semester
  • Home preparation for classes - 14 hours per semester
  • Preparation for credit - 12 hours per semester
  • Preparation for exam - 12 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
The course represents the main areas of pre-school pedagogy and preschool education in the theoretical and applied level.
After completion of the course student will be able: 1. to understand the content of prescribed curriculum of Pre-school pedagogy 2 2. to reflect the topic critically 3. to demonstrate specific intellectual skills gained in a course in writing of a semestral paper 4. to apply gained knowledge in educational process
Prerequisites
Student has basic knowledge of pedagogy.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written exam, Oral presentation of self-study, Test

Active participation in lectures, performing of intermediate tasks, presentation on given topic, test, written exam.
