Course content
1. Definition of the field, general and social psychology. Basic psychological directions. Current research in general psychology and personality psychology. Examples of current research in psychology (the influence of communication technologies on the development of cognitive processes, the impact of computer games presenting violence on emotionality, the influence of neurobiology on learning). 2. The beginnings of scientific psychology, psychoanalysis and psychodynamic direction and its main representatives (S. Freud, C. G. Jung, H. Kohut). Application in contemporary psychology. 3. Individual course in psychology (A. Adler), practical application in education. 4. Behaviorists and humanists and their concepts of personality, main leaders (Watson, Skinner, Maslow, Rogers). Applications in contemporary psychology and pedagogy. 5. Applying Maslow's hierarchy of needs to a pre-school child. Self-reflection - fulfilling own needs according to Maslow's hierarchy. 6. Biological approach in psychology and contemporary fields of psychology development (neuropsychology, cognitive psychology, evolutionary psychology). 7. General psychology - levels of consciousness, unconsciousness. Sleep - basic characteristics, the relation of the sleeping need and the temperament of the child. 8. General psychology - perception, memory and attention. Development of attention and memory in preschool children. Imagination and fantasy of pre-school age child. 9. General psychology - speech, thinking, intelligence. The concept of intelligence by Gardner. Piaget's theory of cognitive development. 10. Relation of speech and thought. Possibilities of detecting intellectual talent in pre-school children. Development of thinking in pre-school children. 11. General psychology - emotions. Basic character and types of emotions. Emotional intelligence and its development in pre-school children. 12. General psychology - motivation. Current research on the importance of internal and external motivation in relation to learning in children. 13. Psychology of personality - abilities, temperament, character. Personality approaches - nature and nurture. Child's temperament assessment by the nursery teacher. Developing moral characteristics in a child. 14. Mental hygiene in the profession of nursery teacher. Basic elements of psychohygiene in practice.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monological explanation (lecture, presentation,briefing), Dialogue metods(conversation,discussion,brainstorming), Self-study (text study, reading, problematic tasks, practical tasks, experiments, research, written assignments)

Learning outcomes
The course provides students with orientation in knowledge of basic psychological disciplines necessary for the development of pedagogical-psychological competences of students - future teachers.
After completion of the course student will be able: 1. to understand the content of prescribed curriculum of General and personality psychology 2. to reflect the topic critically 3. to demonstrate specific intellectual skills gained in a course in writing of a semestral paper 4. to apply gained knowledge in educational process
Prerequisites
Student has basic knowledge of psychology.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written exam, Written assignment

Participation in lessons 75%. Preparation of seminar paper and two essays - self-reflection on selected topic (motivation, ego-defensive mechanisms). Written test.
