Course content
1. Introduction to the field, methods of research in developmental psychology. Longitudinal and transverse type of research. 2. Basic concepts of developmental psychology - aging, learning, socialization, developmental specifics. Selected theories of development periodization. 3. Prenatal and perinatal period. Ethical aspects associated with pregnancy - prolife and prochoice. Childbirth, psychological aspects of childbirth. Neonatal and infant period. Emotional, cognitive, speech, social development of the newborn and infant. 4. Erikson's theory of psychosocial development. 5. Piaget's theory of intellectual development. 6. Mother-child early bond, anaclictic depression. Research on emotional deprivation in early childhood development. 7. Primary and secondary socialization. Mother-child bond, attachment disorders. 8. Toddler period. Emotional, cognitive, speech, social development of the toddler. Norm and pathology in development. Cultural context of development. 9. Pre-school period. Emotional, cognitive, speech, social development in pre-school. Preoperative thinking - Piaget's theory of cognitive development. 10. The role of kindergarten in the development of the child. Cultural context of development. A child growing up in a bilingual family. Pedagogical and psychological diagnostics of pre-school age children. Recognizing the above-average talents of a preschool. 11. School maturity and readiness. Diagnosis of school maturity in kindergarten. 12. The transition from kindergarten to elementary school as an important development milestone. Younger and middle school age. Emotional, cognitive, social and moral development of a pupil. 13. Puberty, adolescence. Emotional, cognitive, social and moral development in adolescence. Development of identity and ability to self-reflection in adolescence. 14. Adulthood, old age, death. Emotional, cognitive, social development in adulthood and in old age.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monological explanation (lecture, presentation,briefing), Dialogue metods(conversation,discussion,brainstorming), Self-study (text study, reading, problematic tasks, practical tasks, experiments, research, written assignments)

Learning outcomes
The course provides students with the latest knowledge about the development of the individual from conception to death, with emphasis on developmental specifics of childhood. Attention is paid to the early stages of development and their impact on the social and cognitive development of an individual in later periods.
After completion of the course student will be able: 1. to understand the content of prescribed curriculum of Developmental psychology 2. to reflect the topic critically 3. to demonstrate specific intellectual skills gained in a course in writing of a semestral paper 4. to apply gained knowledge in educational process
Prerequisites
Student has basic knowledge of general psychology.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam, Written assignment, Test

Participation in lessons min. 75%, two seminar papers focusing on self-reflection in relation to the development period. Test. Oral exam.
