Course content
1. Phylogenetic and ontogenetic speech development - theory of language acquisition, psycholinguistic theory, stage of speech development, language level in speech development, problems of speech development from birth to younger school age. 2. Social, cultural and biological determinants of speech development - congenital disposition, maturation, learning in speech development, influence of the environment, family, pre-school education on speech development of the child. 3. Articulation device, speech physiology. Introduction to anatomy and physiology of the orofacial area, respiration, voice formation, etc. 4. Fundamentals of phonetics and phonology - introduction to phonics and phonology of Czech for speech therapists, system of Czech vocabulary, physiology of vocabulary (consonants, vocals). 5. Developing children's language and communication competence - Framework Educational Program for Preschool Education, educational area Language and Speech. Diagnosis of pre-school and early school-age children by a pedagogue with an emphasis on communication skills, used diagnostic methods at pre-school age. 6. Promoting speech development in children - role of kindergarten, role of parent, role of speech therapist, role of special pedagogue. Specific issues of speech education in kindergarten - bilingualism and foreign language teaching in children, children with special educational needs, support measures in kindergarten. 7. Disturbed communication ability in children - delayed speech development, faulty pronunciation, patriotism, stuttering, brilliance, elective mutism.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monological explanation (lecture, presentation,briefing), Dialogue metods(conversation,discussion,brainstorming), Self-study (text study, reading, problematic tasks, practical tasks, experiments, research, written assignments)

  • Home preparation for classes - 14 hours per semester
  • Preparation for credit - 12 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
The course focuses on speech development and linguistic competence of the child from the onset of ontogenesis and on the role of kindergarten and teacher in the process of language skills acquisition in pre-school child.
After completion of the course student will be able: 1. to understand the content of prescribed curriculum of the course 2. to reflect the topics of the course critically 3. to demonstrate specific intellectual skills gained in the course in writing of a semestral paper 4. to use the acquired knowledge and skills in the educational process, to develop the language and communication competencies of pre-school children
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of pedagogy, psychology, pedagogical-psychological diagnostics and didactics.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written assignment

Active participation in lectures. Elaboration of assigned tasks. Reading academic literature.
