Course content
The course introduces the basic theory of education issues. Theory of education as a pedagogic science. Biological and social factors forming personality, personality concepts, socialization. Education, educational goals. Educational goals and their historical and social conditionality. Lifestyle, personal values, psychosocial development. Leisure time and youth. Leisure time socialization. Communication and its influence on psychosocial development. Referential groups. Socialization and individualization, self-knowledge, self-esteem, self-education. Crisis in child s (pubescent s, adolescent s) life. Social support, prevention, institutional education.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monological explanation (lecture, presentation,briefing), Dialogue metods(conversation,discussion,brainstorming), Self-study (text study, reading, problematic tasks, practical tasks, experiments, research, written assignments)

Learning outcomes
The course acquaints students with basic questions of education theory and selected practical problems of educational activities. After completing it the student should better choose adequate educational approaches for children and adolescents and should be able to duly justify the choice made. He should also be able to make critical analysis of scholarly and popular texts on education issues.
After completion of the subject student will be able 1. to understand the content of prescribed curriculum of Theories of education 2. to reflect the topic critically 3. to demonstrate specific intellectual skills gained in a course in writing of a semestral theses 4. to apply gained knowledge in educational process 5. to be motivated for continuous learning in the field
Prerequisites
Student has basic knowledge of pedagogy.

Literary sources for pedagogical analysis: After reading one of the following works, the student, based on the knowledge gained from the theory of education and pedagogical psychology, will identify and adequately justify the educational style of the selected book by its author. Exam requirements: Active participation in lectures, comparative analysis of at least 2 publications from prescribed literature (at least 1 book is from a set of basic literature) and pedagogical analysis of the educational style described by the author of a work mentioned in selected literary sources. Students generally write at least 3 publications in writing. The prerequisite for the examination is the orientation in the subject of the Theory of Education given by the syllabus. The analysis of the text of each read book is to be processed at least in the 4 pages of the typeface. To pass the exam, the ability to critically compare the studied publications and the synthesis of the knowledge acquired by the study and the teaching practice is assumed.
