Course content
1. Education and democracy - introduction to the problem. 2. School and civil society (pupil participation in school life, democratic principles and values in the everyday life of the school). 3. Tolerance, democracy and the inner life of the school. 4. Education against racism, education to tolerance (preparation and implementation of student education projects). 5. Totalitarianism and education - education (leadership and dictatorship as a counterweight to pluralist democracy, historical experience with totalitarian systems). 6. Witnesses of the past - student projects.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Dialogue metods(conversation,discussion,brainstorming), Self-study (text study, reading, problematic tasks, practical tasks, experiments, research, written assignments)

Learning outcomes
The course acquaints students with the current pedagogical professional discussion on democracy and education as well as with the historical context of the given issue. In the foreground of the module is the activity approach, the creation and realization of educational project on selected topic according to the Framework Educational Program for Elementary Education (democracy, tolerance, totalitarianism, democratic methods of conflict resolution) intended for primary schools.
After completion of the course student will be able: 1. to understand the content of prescribed curriculum of Education of democratic citizen 2. to reflect the topic critically 3. to demonstrate specific intellectual skills gained in a course in writing of a semestral paper 4. to apply gained knowledge in educational process
Prerequisites
Student has basic knowledge of primary education and history of education.

Oral presentation of self-study, Written assignment
