Course content
Thematic areas: 1. Introduction to the study - introducing the subject, basic concepts. 2. Fundamentals of geology and geomorphology - the origin and development of landscape types in the Czech Republic. 3. Rocks and minerals - basic terms; the occurrence of rocks in the landscape; examples of rocks and minerals (linking with positional and compositional transformation, working with observation of dimensions and shapes). 4. Physical Geographical Excursion - Theme of Geological Interests in the Landscape "(time-space orientation, perception of sequence of events). 5. Physical Geographical Excursion - Theme of Geological Interests in the Landscape "(time-space orientation, perception of sequence of events). 6. Basics of hydrology - water as a global problem of humanity; water supplies on Earth and in the Czech Republic (basic mathematical concepts). 7. Hydrology basics - hydrological cycle; rivers, lakes, glaciers. 8. Natural Threats and Risks - Human Protection of Emergencies caused by Inanimate Nature: Floods, Dangerous Meteorological Events, etc. (working with information and its use in solving problematic situations). 9. Fundamentals of climatology and meteorology - weather and climate; measurement of meteorological elements; weather forecast; climate models; weather dynamics (connection with time transformation). 10. Physical-Geographic Excursion - Theme Meteorological Elements and Weather Forecast ": visit to the meteorological station Liberec (development of the ability to perceive the relationship of reality and symbols). 11. Renewable and non-renewable energy sources - extraction and processing of raw materials; new trends in energy. 12. Conservation of nature and landscape - environmental problems and protection possibilities; the concept of sustainable development. 13. Presentation of semestral papers. 14. Presentation of semestral papers.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monological explanation (lecture, presentation,briefing), Dialogue metods(conversation,discussion,brainstorming), Self-study (text study, reading, problematic tasks, practical tasks, experiments, research, written assignments)
  • Class attendance - 28 hours per semester
  • Home preparation for classes - 14 hours per semester
  • Semestral paper - 18 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
The course presents the terminology of animate and inanimate nature, the essentials of biological system and the methods of science education pre-school institution. The focus is on formation of positive relationship to living organisms.
Theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the field.

General orientation in the subject.

Assessment methods and criteria
Practical demonstration of acquired skills, Oral presentation of self-study, Written assignment

Active participation in the classes, semestral work. The course is held in Czech language, the requirements are stated in the Czech version.
