Course content
Lectures: 1. Profession and professionalism in social work. Demands of the profession. General differences between the professional interventions and laic, non-formal or volunteer help. 2. Crisis of the sense of social work, vague definition of social work, the role of the state in relation to social work. 3. Limits of professional social work: the issues of social solidarity and legitimacy of social work. Social work identity. 4. Values of professional social work. Personal vs. professional values. 5. The importance of learning and education in professional social work. Lifelong learning and education as ways of building professional social work. 6. The issues of social coexistence in the CR and in terms of the demands and expectations from social work as a social sub-system. 7. The role of research as a tool of emphasizing the professionalism in social work. Objective and subjective reality - the ways of exploring them. Seminars: 1. The issues of so called fluid identity of social work- the difficulties of defining and self-defining professional social work. The relation between social work and social services. 2. Techniques of professional reflection - practical training of them. 3. Social work in crisis - crisis as a potential for a change. Future perspective of the professional basis of social work. 4. Self-evaluation of the social work students. Prevention of the loss of professional values. 5. Key competencies and their present character in the social work practise and methodology. Self-definition of the social worker. 6. Social work in the situation of problematic social coexistence: the issues of being different; normal; national. 7. Practical ways of gathering data in social work research. Designing a research and exploring the issue of social work professional character.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monological explanation (lecture, presentation,briefing), Dialogue metods(conversation,discussion,brainstorming), Self-study (text study, reading, problematic tasks, practical tasks, experiments, research, written assignments), Written assignment presentation and defence

Learning outcomes
The goal of the discipline is to define present demands of the environment put on the system of social work and professional social worker. Students will adopt skills necessary for critical and contextual professional self-reflection.
