Course content
Lectures: 1. The theoretical basis of social deviance: concepts and problems. The distinction between socially normal and socially deviant phenomena. Social standards and their concepts. Social control. Concept of social deviation. 2. Basic theoretical and historical concepts and approaches. Classical conceptions, biological theories, psychological theories (psychoanalysis, behaviorism). Contemporary and interdisciplinary theories, sociological theories, social control theory. 3. Issues of risk groups at risk. Multidisciplinary co-operation in solving socially pathological phenomena, the role of schools and school facilities. 4. Selected social pathological phenomena: vandalism, prostitution, sexual deviance 5. Selected social pathological phenomena: alcohol and non-alcohol addiction, pathological gambling 6. Selected socio-pathological phenomena: Child abuse and neglect (CAN), domestic violence, homelessness 7. Selected social pathological phenomena: sectarianism and its effects, suicidal behavior, self-harm, bullying Seminars: 1. Socially normal issues, socially negative issues, social deviances and pathologies. Criminal behaviour. 2. Practice applications of the theoretical models of social deviance. Connections with methods of social work. 3. Some of the causes of the social pathologies. Family functions and their disruptions. Negative groups. 4. Vandalism - offenders and victims, European context. Graffiti as art. Criminal forms of prostitutions. 5. Ethology of addictions. Four main factors. Basic terminology. Addictions. Therapy and prevention. Gambling periods. Social issues of gambling. 6. Syndrome of Child sexual abuse. Forms and kinds of domestic violence. Causes, prevention. Victims and their support. Homelessness from the gender point of view. 7. Suicidal tendencies and behaviour, auto mutilation. Prevention and therapy. Bullying and its solutions, forms of help.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monological explanation (lecture, presentation,briefing), Dialogue metods(conversation,discussion,brainstorming), Self-study (text study, reading, problematic tasks, practical tasks, experiments, research, written assignments), Written assignment presentation and defence

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to offer students a view of the social pathological phenomena in the society without denouncing or stigmatizing. It introduces students to risk behaviors and risk groups with whom they come into contact in their special pedagogical practice. At the same time, emphasis is placed on the importance of interdisciplinary cooperation between teachers, special educators, social workers and other experts in social pathology.

Written exam, Student's performance analysis

The student will carry out a search for research data on a given social risk phenomenon. Examination in written form.
