Course content
Lectures: 1. Individual planning in social work. The process of individual planning, formulating and reformulating the goals of the cooperation. 2. Social work with the criminal victims. Restorative approaches. International agreements. Victimology. Specific skills of the social worker here. 3. Social work in criminal issues including working with the offenders, witnesses, police officers and others. Role of the prison service. 4. People with health difficulties and special needs in social work: terminology (handicap, prejudice, stereotypes, stigma etc.). Health and sense difficulties in social work. 5. People with mental and psychic difficulties in social work. People with chronic, or long-term disease in social work. People with dementia in social work. Complex rehabilitation. 6. Social work with the dying. Death and dying. Palliative care, its forms and methods. Demands on social worker. 7. Culturally sensitive social work. Social work in the environment of the minorities. Dysfunctional families. Integration of the foreigners into the Czech society and the role of social work in this process. 8. Basic principles and sources of intercultural mediation and intercultural social work. Social political basis. Ethical values and principles of the intercultural social work. 9. Street work - field work, detached work. Basic terminology. Field work on the internet and social nets. Legislation. Field worker. 10. Specific and non-specific field work. Social work in the areas endangered with social exclusion. Social exclusion and its meaning in social work. 11. Management in and of social work. The meaning of the directive approach within social work. Management as a process and a group of people. Personal qualities of the manager in social work. 12. Supervision as a management tool. Supervision as the tool of emphasizing the quality of social service. Supervision contract. Ethical thinking in supervision. 13. Marketing and publicity in social work. Publicity of the social services. Public relations and lobbying. Personal presentation and direct marketing. 14. Projects and project management in social work. Project as a part of fundraising in social work. Logical frame of the project. Design and the process of the project. Administration and financial management of the projects. Seminars: 1. One example of individual planning with a client of one particular social service. Individual plan as a document of communication between the client and the social service provider. 2. Specific approach of social work within the psychiatric care. Present issues of the topic. Public opinion. 3. Social worker and his/her role in helping the residuary. Mistakes in the contact with the residuary. Communication. 4. European integration nets. Integrating foreigners as a mental process and the role of social work and social workers within. 5. Field social work in the environment of social networks, Facebook. Options and risks of thy cyberspace. 6. Specific areas of management in social work: risk management, time management, happiness management, human sources. 7. Supervision of the management as a specific supervision model. Education in supervision.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monological explanation (lecture, presentation,briefing), Dialogue metods(conversation,discussion,brainstorming), Self-study (text study, reading, problematic tasks, practical tasks, experiments, research, written assignments), Written assignment presentation and defence, Active metods (simulation, situational contingency methods, drama,acting, namagerial acting )

  • Preparation for exam - 60 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
The goal of the discipline is to introduce some more methods and theories of social work. The emphasis here is to new target groups and social issues. The goal is to put the work of a social worker into the context of social problems and understanding them.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam, Student's performance analysis

Students fulfil their tasks continually via the electronic support of their studies. Students work out their seminar thesis ans undertake oral exam.
